Back-to-School Study Bootcamp for Spring 2014: Day 11

Day 11

I don’t have a steady work schedule. Work projects come in when they come in.  Today was a heavy workday. I was tempted to declare it an day off from study, but instead I just made it a minimal study day. Short study periods are great for reviewing the basics. I didn’t have a lot of difficulty with resonance structures; however, I find sometimes that I go into autopilot mode when doing them. Reviewing the topic forces me to slow down and revisit the relevant concepts and processes at work. Sometimes studying isn’t so much about moving forward or getting the homework done; it’s more a matter of keeping up the habit of studying.

Numbers for the day:

Before 6 p.m.
Organic Chemistr
y – 45 minutes; review of resonance structures.

After 6 p.m.
Physics
– 30 minutes; review.
Differential Equations – 30 minutes; review of problems I found difficult the first time through.
Workout — 60 minutes; 30 minutes on the treadmill (2.02 miles); short walk and basic exercises.

Sonjiala Jackson-Hotchkiss

Sonjiala (SON-ja-la) is currently pursuing an MS degree in chemistry at UC San Diego. As a member of the Bridges to Baccalaureate Program at San Diego Mesa College, her research in organic chemistry includes the synthesis of fatty acid esters of vitamin C that will be tested for their ability to inhibit glycolytic enzymes. In an additional research project she uses analytical chemistry techniques to determine the composition of World War II era California pottery.
