Back-to-School Study Bootcamp for Spring 2014: Day 10

Day 10

I knew today would be busy, so I planned my study day around my workday as much as possible. I walked to an appointment instead of taking the train to get in my exercise minutes. I knew there would be some waiting room time for my appointment, so I took some organic chemistry with me. I was able to tune out the waiting room chatter better than I had imagined. I want to always be prepared to study. My backpack is usually loaded with stuff, so I will package any flash cards I make into sandwich bags to keep them organized and easily portable.

My scheduled work for today took longer than I had planned, so I was pleased that I had overlapped some tasks earlier in the day.

Numbers for the day:

Before 6 p.m.
Workout – 60 minutes; walk plus a few minutes of light exercise.
Organic Chemistry – 90 minutes; a good 30 minutes of that in the waiting room.  Chapters 3 and 4

After 6 p.m.
Differential Equations
— 20 minutes of review of previously worked problems.
Physics — 20 minutes of review of previously worked problems.

Sonjiala Jackson-Hotchkiss

Sonjiala (SON-ja-la) is currently pursuing an MS degree in chemistry at UC San Diego. As a member of the Bridges to Baccalaureate Program at San Diego Mesa College, her research in organic chemistry includes the synthesis of fatty acid esters of vitamin C that will be tested for their ability to inhibit glycolytic enzymes. In an additional research project she uses analytical chemistry techniques to determine the composition of World War II era California pottery.
